Dermal Fillers/ Volumisation Treatments

We started to offer muscle relaxing treatments in 2007, when Dr Flint gained the CODE AFA (Advanced Facial Aesthetics) accreditations.

Dermal Filllers are well suited to restoring and re-balancing youthful features of your face without the need for surgery.
Do you have any questions about Dermal Filler/ Volumisation?

“I promote the use of Dermal Fillers to enhance and help balance a persons appearance, not to fundamentally change it” – Dr Flint

Dermal Fillers can be used to provide volumising and collagen-inducing effect in the skin. The fillers Dr Flint uses are derived from ‘hyaluronic acid’ which is a gel-like material naturally found in the skin, joints, eyes etc. It attracts water from the surrounding tissues and then behaves as a sponge in your skin, helping to maintain skin volume and hydration.

After time the filler is gradually broken down by the bodies processes (hyalase enzymes), forming water and carbon molecules which are then dispersed through the tissues. This situation occurs naturally with age and is also increased with sun exposure, and other activities which age the skin (insufficient moisturising etc…).

We prefer to use ‘Hyaluronic acid’ fillers because they are reversible and do not have the issues of bio-compatibility sometimes associated with some collagen / more long-term filler materials.
The material is well used on the lower half of the face to create a natural lift in depressed regions of the skin and face.

What are Dermal Fillers / Volumisation?

When a filler is used ‘correctly’ it not only tightens the skin that sits on top of the treatment area but also (and more importantly) can be used to optimise the profile of the skin. Fillers used under the skin can fill deep folds (from beneath) either reducing them or often removing their appearance and hence giving the face a more youthful appearance.

There are several key areas that we can target with fillers;

  • Naso-labial Folds (also referred to as “bracket lines”)- they run from the corner of the nose to the corner of the mouth.
  • Lips – to create a fuller appearance, and / or change their shape, improve ‘cupids bow’ definition and improve symmetry.
  • Cheeks – pad out hollow areas.
  • Around the eyes.

How long do Dermal Fillers last?

  • Hyaluronic acid fillers (such as Restylane): last between 6 to 12 months (depending upon the skin movement in the area – greater movement causes quicker breakdown of the material).
  • Synthetic fillers (such as Radiesse): last between 12 to 18 months.
  • Autologous (fat) transfers: (where your own body fat is extracted from another body part, processed and injected into the desired location) can sometimes last several years. In some cases the fat will be reabsorbed back into the body quicker than this.
  • Combination treatments: By using Botox (muscle relaxing) treatment in combination with Dermal filler materials the longevity of the filler can be increased because the muscles that flex under the skin actually promote re-absorption of the filler; Botox slows this process down by reducing the muscle activity.
